For the second year in a row, our WISH families had fun marching and handing out candy at the Westchester, Playa Del Rey, Marina Del Rey, Playa Vista Annual Holiday Community Street Parade!
Wouldn't it be nice if all of your holiday shopping helped support your local public elementary school? From shopping online, at the mall, or even grocery shopping, it all can be used to support WISH, and here are the details about how to do it!
On November 5, students at WISH Charter School culminated a six-week Shakespeare residency by performing scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream, as well as Elizabethan rounds and dances, at the WISH Charter Renaissance Fair, a celebratory festival complete with music, food, games, and full of happy families in creative costumes. We'd like to thank the Fadhli-Raymond family for their generous act of donating a kiln to WISH in memory of Julian's grandfather. The creativity and craftsmanship that our students will develop through working with clay is due to the generosity of your family!
Grab your holiday shopping lists- The Grove and The Americana at Brand will donate 5% of your purchase receipts to WISH through the end of the year! Just bring your receipts to Concierge Services to help earn money for our school.
Tickets available now for the WISH Ice Skating Party on Sunday, November 20th. Just $10 if you pre-purchase them from the WISH office, or $15 at the door. Either way, it's a great deal that includes skating, rentals, food (Rubio's food truck), drinks, and lots of fun and prizes! Kings legend and radio commentator Daryl Evans, the Kings Ice Crew Cheerleaders and Bailey the Kings mascot will be there!Everything for this event is donated, so 100% of the proceeds go directly to supporting WISH Charter Elementary School!
Do you like pizza and salads? Want a night off from cooking? Or just looking for an excuse to hang out with friends from WISH? Come to the restaurant night at CPK this Wednesday and Thursday and help earn cash back for WISH!
On Saturday, November 5th, from 2-6pm we will have our first-ever WISH Renaissance Carnival. Through a grant with the National Endowment for the Arts, WISH students were able to participate in a Shakespeare Residency this Fall with Theatricum Botanicum. The WISH Renaissance Carnival will be the culmination of the residency, where each class will participate in a Midsummer Night's Dream-themed performance. Parent volunteers still needed to make this event a huge success!
In light of the exciting partnership between WISH Charter and Theatricum Botanicum, culminating in a full-school celebration including scenes, music, and dance from A Midsummer Night's Dream, performed by our talented WISH students, we are getting a close look at how arts education works across curriculum to strengthen our children's skills, broaden their creative thinking, and increase their confidence levels.
WISH is participating in the Fresh and Easy Shop for Schools program, and now through December 31, we earn $1 for every $20 spent. Just bring your receipts to drop off in the WISH office.
The WISH Community Association's Annual Giving Campaign kicked off at Back to School Night. Please consider making a donation to help support our amazing public school!
The winner has been announced, and WISH will receive $2500 thanks to the Give Back to Schools program at Westfield Culver City.

From volunteering in the classrooms to serving hot lunches, helping to plant gardens and paint murals, building a shade structure and handball court, reading to students in the library... the list of ways that our WISH parents and volunteers have contributed to our school in its first year goes on and on. WISH teachers and staff honored our volunteers at a special breakfast this week, saying, "Thanks for helping WISH grow!"

The beautiful art work our students made from WISH's beach trash clean-up with Heal the Bay will be on display this summer at the reDiscover Center in Culver City!
The 1st Annual WISH Golf Tournament, organized by Sheri Steinman, raised over $4,000 for the school, and was a great community building event!
WISH students recently got a visit from the creators of a new television show, called "Food Forward," about people who are changing how we eat in America.
WISH won the Grand Prize in Westfield Culver City's Earning 4 Learning program, earning a grand total of $3250 from Westfield this year! These funds will help significantly toward the costs of projectors and other equipment for our new classrooms as WISH grows next year. THANK YOU to Westfield Culver City and the Shopping Partnership School Rewards Program!
Councilmember Bill Rosendahl visited WISH Charter Elementary school, and received a tour led by our students. Kindergarteners and 1st grade students showed off some of their recent projects such as the WISH gardens, "Fluffy" the baby chick and the Kinder City. 2nd and 3rd grade students talked with the Councilmember about local improvements they would like to see in the Westchester community. Rosendahl was able to witness the WISH philosophy of meaningful instructional activities in action, firsthand.
WISH Kindergarten students have been hard at work with a collaborative project led by Mr. B, creating a city! You can check it out in the technology/computer lab where it's currently on display.
Our last big fundraiser of the year, WISH's First Annual Golf Tournament is coming up on Friday June 10th. Participate in this four-person scramble by gathering your own foursome, or we can pair you up with other participants. Hole sponsorships opportunities are available. WISH Charter joined other elementary, middle and high schools from Westchester and Playa Del Rey on the Loyola Marymount campus for the Race for Success 5K walk/run, and the event raised $45,000 for our local schools.
WISH's fabulous first grade teacher, Alison Sitrick, was honored as one of the top teachers in the Westchester/Playa Del Rey/Playa Vista area at the annual LAX Coastal Area Chamber Eddy Awards.

The very first 1st graders in Miss Sitrick's class at WISH Charter show a semester of service learning. Writing letters to veterans, connecting with an inter-generational e-pal, having a snack sale to raise money for Japan....these kids do it all!
As WISH students participated in their semester of learning, each class picked a specific cause to which they wanted to donate their time. Projects ranged from helping homeless youth to supporting Shelterbox, an organization that delivers the essentials to families in the immediate aftermath of a disaster (such as the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan).
WISH Charter will be participating with other local schools in the RACE FOR SUCCESS 5K on Saturday, May 21st at Loyola Marymount University! Please come join our WISH team as a runner, walker or in the Kids' 1K and help support our local schools!
